Unknown error while reading block - any error that does not fall into a specific error category.
Device not ready while reading block - a request has been made but the drive has not completed a previous operation.
Medium error while reading block - the test detected an error on the disk surface, probably caused by a scratch/ding in the disk.
Hardware failure while reading block - while trying to read a block, the drive detected a nonrecoverable hardware problem (controller board, no spin, etc.).
Illegal request on block - the drive was requested to do something that it cannot do. Example, read track 601 when only 600 tracks exist.
Unit attention on block - the drive may have been reset during the operation.
